Clella Brown, 98, of Newton, died Monday, February 16, 2009, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Newton Free Methodist Church in Newton. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the church with Rev. Don Nichols and Rev. Ron Linder officiating. Burial will be in Honey Cemetery in Bogota. Crain Funeral Home in Newton is in charge of arrangements.
Clella was born on July 31, 1910, in Bogota, the daughter of William Michael and Maude Mae Ferguson Chesnut. On March 26, 1927, Clella married Andrew Jackson Brown. Unto this union were born four children, Maxine, Jack G., Roberta and Rick. Andrew preceded her in death on January 30, 2000. She spent her life as a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was a faithful member of Newton Free Methodist Church and lived her live as a testimony to her faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ.
She will be loved and remembered by her son, Rick Brown and his wife, Deena, of Newton; daughters, Maxine Nichols, of Lima, Ohio, and Roberta and her husband, John Cowman, of Newton; daughter-in-law, Joan Brown, of Newton; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Avanelle Simingson, of Arizona, Bernadine Long, of Woodbury, Tenn., and Norma and her husband, Kenneth Long, of Heartville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Andrew; son, Jack G. Brown; son-in-law, Bill Nichols; brother, John Chesnut; and sisters, Inez Osburn, Blanche Bail, Icyle and Gladys Chesnut.
