YAKIMA - Wilma J. Burgess, 66, of Burlingame, California, quietly passed away Saturday, October 16, 2004, after a long illness. Wilma was born October 28, 1937 in Yakima, Washington, to father Wilfred A. Cheshier and mother Lillie P. (Johnson) Cheshier.
Wilma was a gifted artist, hand stitching elaborate needlepoint pieces, crocheting beautiful afghans, cherished christening gowns and exquisite table linens. She was also an attentive instructor, passing along her knowledge of the needle arts to friends and family within her community.
Wilma left the Yakima Valley at the age of 23 to pursue a career with Pan American World Airways in the San Francisco Bay Area. She retired from the airlines in 1991.
She is survived by her husband, John Burgess, her daughter, Laura, and son-in-law, Clarke Schiller. She is also survived by four sisters; Laura and Fred Riebe of Yakima, Alma Eucker of Prosser, Lillie and Dale Madison of Bellevue, and Sandy and Jerry Blanchard of Naches. Wilma also leaves behind three brothers; Robert and Joy Cheshier of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Joseph and Bobbie Cheshier of Ogden, Utah, and Gordon and Judy Cheshier of San Jose, California.
Memorial services will be held today, Monday, October 18, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society of Washington in care of Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.
