Aaron Chesebro was born in Worcester, Otsego Co., N. Y., on Jan. 27, 1821. He came to Wisconsin in '36 stopping first in Walworth Co., later moving to Green Lake, where he was married to Lydia Gardenier on Sept. 23, 1847. In 1856 they moved to Lawrence, Marquette Co., and in 1867 to Coloma, where Mrs. Chesebro died June 13, 1893, to be followed by her husband on Oct. 13, 1905, he dying on the old homestead which for years has been the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ada K. Smith, and her family.
Only one other child, Eb Chesebro, also of Coloma, is left to mourn. Two years ago the subject of this sketch was injured by a fall and has been an invalid ever since, but was faithfully and lovingly cared for in the homes of his children. Mr. Chesebro was the last of a family of twelve children, and was the fourth to pass away within a year and a half. Their father was the founder of the deaf and dumb asylum at Delevan, the first school being opened in his house in 1850. Our subject was a member of Hancock Lodge, F. & A. M., having been a Mason for about 45 years, and that order had charge of the funeral, which was held at Coloma Station cemetery. Thus ended the earthly life of one whose acts were those of kindness and whose friends were legion.
The bereaved relatives desire to thank the Eastern Star ladies for the decoration of the grave; the choir for their sweet music, and all others who gave or offered assistance. -- Hancock News.
