Barbara C. Anderson, 77, of 190 Southwestern Drive, Lakewood, died at 12:50 p.m. Thursday (March 19, 2009), in her home following a lengthy illness.
A lifelong area resident, she was born April 2, 1931, in Jamestown, N.Y., the daughter of the late Gerald Grant and Berenice Hoyt Cheney.
She was a 1949 graduate of Jamestown High School, and earned her associate of art degree in 1980 from Jamestown Community College.
In earlier years, she was a medical secretary for the former Dr. A. R. Martin, MD, for 24 years. She was most recently employed as a customer service representative for Wegmans Supermarket for the past 12 years.
She was a 42 year member of the Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of the Business and Professional Women Association where she served on the scholarship selection committee, a member of the American Scandinavian Heritage Foundation, where she served as corresponding secretary, a founding member of the Main Street Money Managers Club and was the treasurer for the Class of 1949 Reunion Committee. She was also a member of the Lake Erie Mustang Owners Club, Erie, Pa., and was a volunteer for the I-86 Visitors Center. She was also a staunch supporter of the Chautauqua County Humane Society, the Roger Tory Peterson Institute, the Rails to Trails, the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy and the Chautauqua Lake Association.
She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Roger Elof Anderson, whom she married July 9, 1949: four children: Randall G. (Heidi) Anderson of Lakewood, Todd S. (Sue) Anderson of Dublin, Ga., Candice A. (Felix) Muzza and Jay R. Anderson, both of Jamestown; seven grandchildren: Reed R. (Maggie) Anderson of Albany, N.Y., Erik S. (Melissa) Anderson of Ft. Benning, Ga., Sonya M. Anderson and Nora M. Anderson, both of Dublin, Ga., Michael F. Muzza of Pittsburgh, Pa., Corinne L. Muzza of Rochester, N.Y., and Matthew F. Muzza of Binghamton, N.Y.; and her two sisters: Joyce C. Bracey and Shirley C. Brace, both of Jamestown.
