86, was born in Hibbing, MN on Nov 27, 1920. He passed at his home in Lakewood Nov 10, 2007. From childhood, he was a gifted artist, craftsman, and outdoors man. He was a bronze sculptor, a leather worker making two saddles from scratch, and a gunsmith. His life long passion was for welding. His motto for life was borrowed from a sign on a welding shop which he read from the school bus. It read: 'We can fix anything except a broken heart.' He volunteered for the War in 1943 and served in Patton's 3rd army. He participated in the siege of Bastogne and in liberating the Nazi death camps of Gusen and Mauthausen. In the 1960s he put his welding expertise to work for the Marathon Oil Company becoming a certified welding inspector and welding coordinator before retiring in 1985. He married Doris "Dobbie" Phelps of Chisholm, MN on Feb 6, 1943. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Bobbie, and brother, Robert. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dobbie, daughter Michelle (Scott) McKinster of Salol, MN, sisters Lois and Shirley of Dayton, OH. As well as his very special brother-in-law George Phelps, whom he viewed as a son, of Bloomington, MN. No formal services will be held
