Obituary

Candace May Cheever was born near Delphos, Ottawa county, Kansas, May 15, 1889 was taken sick with typhoid fever January 10, died March 3, 1906, at the hospital at the school for feeble minded at Winfield, Kansas. Dr. Clark, the matron, nurses and others cared for her and did all that human skill could accomplish to relieve pain and restore her to health.

The funeral services occurred March 4. Before the remains left the hospital many of those she loved gathered around the casket and sung "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." At the M.E. church, New Salem at 4 p.m. Pastor Stauffer delivered an excellent sermon, after which her mortal remains were laid to rest in the New Salem cemetery.

Candace had an affectionate, happy disposition and good memory about many things. Loved books, but could learn but little about reading them.

When home on vacation she would often ask to have Christ's common read to her "Suffer little Children to come unto me," and her mother was much with her during her illness.

And Candace would ask her to read about Jesus, and often said Jesus is right here in my heart mamma like Bunyon for his little blind Mary. Her parents love for their afflicted child was great. Their trust is in God believing the Heavenly Father doeth all things well.
