Doris Christy Chambers, 87, of Gatesville, TX died October 7, 2007 in a nursing home.
Born September 5, 1920 in Granola, KS to Rolla and Izoda Kelly Cheever, she grew up in Garnet. On August 26, 1937 she married Fred Dwight Chambers of Toronto. She moved to Iola in 1947 and to Gatesville, TX in 1990. She was active in the Church of the Nazarene and with missions, volunteered in the kitchen at the Senior Center, performed with the Singing 60's and loved to crochet for all her family and friends.
Surviving are her brother, Forrest Cheever and wife, Doris of Madison, KS; sister, Rachel Tatman of Madison, KS; brother, Harry Beacon of Tulsa, OK; daughter, Ruth Kelley and husband, Lloyd, of Broken Arrow, OK; son, Ronald Chambers of Gatesville, TX; son, Donald Chambers and wife, Brenda, of Broken Arrow, OK; eight grandchildren, William Chambers, Teresa Andel, Tammy Ortega, James Chambers, Rick Chambers, John Dwight Chambers, Scarlet Johnelle Greenfield and John Kyle Chambers; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; brother, Ralph Cheever; sister, Vivian Tatman; sister, Melvinia Phillips; and son, John Dwight Chambers.
The memorial services were held Friday, October 12 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Iola, KS with the Reverend Duane Copsey officiating.
