Roman "Cristobal" Chavez, age 75, beloved father, grandfather, and brother went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 3, 2009.

He was born on April 16, 1934, in Tecolote, N.M., the fourth child of Manuel and Eloisa Chavez.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his only son Pete "Geo" Chavez.

He is survived by his daughters Maria "Sabie" and husband Marvin Anglin of Moriarty, N.M., Mary Ann C. and husband Frank Anaya of Estancia, N.M., and former wife of 39 years Aggie Chavez of Moriarty. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren: Walter Jr., Ramon, Janelle and Jeremiah Cordova, Dominic Mendez, Brandie Atencio, Jennifer Martinez, Francisco and Vanessa Anaya, and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters: Adelina Chavez, Carmen Gomez and husband Melecio and Aggie Ortiz all of Las Vegas, N.M.; brothers: Manuel Chavez Jr. and Gilbert Chavez all of Las Vegas, N.M.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.

He moved to Longmont Colo., in the early 60s. Where he raised his family and while working for the City of Longmont for many years. He enjoyed camping in Colorado and Northern states all the way to Canada. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. In the mid 70s he returned to New Mexico were he settled on a nice farm in Estancia, where he raised different types of livestock from pigs to sheep and grew alfalfa. He was gifted with his hands, building a barn, designing a horse trailer or inventing his own equipment to get the job done on the farm.

He was an active member of St. Peter and St. Paul Church in Estancia. Serving as Mayordomo one year. In his last years he enjoyed visiting and playing pool at the Senior Center in Moriarty. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Rosary devotional services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Sorrows in Las Vegas, N.M.

Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Thursday morning at the Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father C. John Brasher as celebrant.

Interment will follow at the Tecolote Cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers Walter Cordova Jr., Ramon Cordova, Jeremiah Cordova, Dominic Mendez, Francisco Anaya, and George Torrez.
