Daughter of Peter John Clarke and Mary nee Crellin, baptized Oct 2, 1812; wife of James Corlett, whom she wed on May 23, 1837 at Braddan, Isle of Man. They made their home near Manchester, England, and were the parents of Mary Ann, Thomas, James, John (died young) and Margaret Alice. Catharine was widowed in 1845, when James died of meningitis, and joined the Mormon church in 1848. She emigrated with her four surviving children from the Port of Liverpool on Jan. 22, 1851 on the ship "George W. Bourne," landing at the Port of New Orleans on March 20. The Corletts traveled from New Orleans to St. Louis on the Mississippi River via steamboat. From St. Louis, they continued along the Missouri River to Kanesville, Iowa. On July 7 they left Kanesville as part of the John Brown Company of 50 covered wagons. They arrived at the Great Salt Lake on Sept. 28, 1851, and temporarily settled at Parowan. In November they settled at "Old Cedar Fort" (now Cedar City). On Feb. 21, 1852, Catharine became the number two wife of polygamist Joseph Chatterley, a family friend from England. A year and a half later, he died in an accident, missing the birth of their only child, a daughter named Josephine Catherine Chatterley. A little over three years later, Catherine died at age 44.
