Funeral services for Kathleen Deere, 56, of 508 S. Locust St., were held at 10:00 this morning, Monday, Mar. 30. The Rev. Fr, Don Sederwall presided, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The combined adult and children choirs sang, with Ralph Oliver assisting.
Mrs.Deere, former head librarian at the Carnegie-Schuyler Library in Pana, died at home at 10:30 p.m., Friday, Mar. 27, 1992, after a long illness.
The wake/prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m., and the rosary was recited at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, at Kennedy & Sons Funeral Home, during visitation.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, rural Pana. Active pallbearers were Dale Pieper, Danny Chandler, Darwin McKittrick, Richard Deere, James Deere, and Bruce Wieneke. Serv-ing as honorary pallbearers were members of Pana Carnegie-Schuyler Library Board, past and present, and the library staff, past and present, including 25 persons.
Born May 24, 1935 in Daven-port, Iowa, she was the daughter of Glenn E. and Mary O. Michaelis Chase. She married Robert W. Deere in June 1955. A graduate of Sacred Heart School in Pana, she was also a graduate of the Dominican Academy (high school) of the Sacred Heart, and the Ursuline College, both in Springfield. Working in the college library, she received a degree in book-keeping and accounting. Mrs.Deere was librarian for about 20 years at Carnegie-Schuyler Library. She was 1980 Pana Businesswoman of the Year and 1989 grand marshal of the Pana Labor Day Parade. A member of St. Patrick's Catholic Chruch, she was with the adult choir of the church, and member of Catholic Daughters of America. Her memberships also included the Illinois Library Association, Pana Pioneer Heritage Guild, Community Council for the Arts and Pana Community Hospital Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband, Robert "Bob;" four children, Lori Pieper and Judith McKittrick, both of Pana; Carol Chandler of Herrick; Daniel Chase Deere of Pana, six grand-children and one step-grandchild.
A son, Douglas, is deceased.
