An Old Settler Gone.
C.M. Chase, the last of the old settlers on the State Road between Neponset and Buda, passed away Sunday evening. He had been in failing health for a long time. Last Wednesday night he was taken worse and friends saw that his end was near. He had been a prominent farmer and stock raiser and had been identified with early Illinois history. Coming here long before the railroad was built, he has lived to see the wild prairies of Illinois converted into one of the greatest agricultural states of the Union. As a citizen and neighbor none can give but the highest praise. The funeral was from the late residence Tuesday at 1 o'clock. After appropriate services the remains were taken in charge by his Masonic brethren and conveyed to Hopeland cemetery, where they were laid at rest with the usual obsequies of that order.
