Son of Elliott Chase and Thirza Rogers. It is through his mother Thirza that Elliott is descended from Captain Myles Standish of the Mayflower. In about 1834 Elliott came to Illinois from Andover, New York with his wife Mary. They traveled mostly by river, using the Allegany, Ohio and Mississippi Rivers to arrive in Canton, Fulton County, Illinois. His parents and siblings, Morris, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin, followed in the fall of 1836 joining them in Fulton County. Morris moved in 1838 when he purchased a farm in Knoxville, Illinois where he and his parents settled.
