WEST TOPSHAM - Lloyd G. "Porky" Chase, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.

A Service of Remembrance will be held Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at 3 p.m. in the American Legion Post 10, 320 North Main St., Barre. There are no calling hours.

A complete obituary will be published in a future edition of The Times Argus.

The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre, is in charge of arrangements.

WEST TOPSHAM - Lloyd G. "Porky" Chase, 84, of Vermont Route 25, died Thursday, February 14, 2013, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.

Born on February 25, 1928, in East Barre, he was the son of Brydon T. and Gladys (Taplin) Chase. He attended East Barre School and Spaulding High School in Barre. During World War II, he served as a Seaman Second Class in the United States Navy.

On July 4, 1953, Lloyd married Hazel E. Valliant in the Waits River Church. Following their marriage, they made their home in West Topsham.

Porky was a crane operator in the granite industry in the Barre area.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 10 of Barre and was a Tri-Village Fire Department volunteer. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Porky took pleasure in the outdoors, especially hunting, time spent at hunting camp, and snowmobiling. He was a trail master for the Topsham Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club. He also enjoyed taking trips to casinos in New York, New Jersey, and other states.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Chase of West Topsham; two daughters, Cynthia Perry of West Topsham and Kimberlee Horton and her husband, Paul of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Bertha Pickering and Lillian Clark, both of Barre; two brothers, Elwin Chase and his wife, Annie and Raymond "Mutt" Chase and his wife, Ann, all of Websterville; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

His parents; his son-in-law, Gordon Perry; and six brothers, Thomas Chase, Preston Chase, Grover Chase, Nelson Chase, Lawrence Chase and Henry Chase predeceased him.

A Service of Remembrance will be held Monday, February 18, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. in the American Legion Post 10, 320 North Main Street, Barre. Entombment will be in the Hooker and Whitcomb Vault in Barre to await later interment in the West Topsham Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

WEST TOPSHAM - The service of remembrance for Lloyd G. "Porky" Chase, 84, of Vermont Route 25, was held on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at 3 p.m. in the American Legion Post 10 in Barre. He died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.

Pastor Candace Ricker, of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Waits River, led the service. She read the poems "The Broken Chain," "The Final Flight" and from his family, "He Is Gone." She also read letters from friend Ernie Eggleston on "Hunting with Porky" and "Gambling with Porky" written by nephew Steve Pickering and reflections by Lane and Wilma Dexter.

The eulogy was given by daughter Cynthia Perry. Words of reflection and memories were shared by niece Janet Chase, nephew Tim Pickering and friends Rosemary Bradley and Skye Elderkin.

Entombment took place in the Hooker and Whitcomb Vault in Barre to await later interment in the West Topsham Cemetery.

Family and friends gathered downstairs at the American Legion after the service for a time of fellowship and refreshments.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre.
