Ivy Charlton Herchehein, 93, of Manzanita died at Providence Seaside Hospital in Seaside on Sept. 24.
A service is being held today at the Nehalem Bay United Methodist Church in Nehalem, with Pastor Scott Allen officiating. Burial will follow at the American Legion Cemetery in Nehalem.
Mrs. Herchenhein was born Aug. 16, 1910, in La Grande to James Kyle and Maude Cochrane Charlton.
After high school she attended Oregon State University where she majored in home economics, graduating in 1931. That fall she was hired to teach at Nehalem High School. In 1932 she met and married Hans Herchenhein of Manzanita.
After Neah-Kah-Nie High School was built, she taught business subjects there until her retirement in 1972. She taught in the same school district for 41 years.
She was active for many years in the DuBois Chapter of Eastern Star, and the Pythian Sisters. She served as grand chief.
Survivors include nieces Karen DuPuis of Nehalem and Shirley Potter of Manzanita, a nephew Kyle Boylen of Elgin and other nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Hans, died in 1961; her son, John, died in 1967; and sisters, Velma Boylen of Nehalem and Inez Smith of La Grande also died earlier.
Contributions may be made to the John Herchenhein Memorial Scholarship Fund at Neah-Kah-Nie High School.
Waud's Funeral Home of Tillamook is in charge of the arrangements.
