Velma Charlton Boylen, 90, of Nehalem and formerly of La Grande, died Jan. 22, at her home. At her request there will be no service. Mrs. Boylen was born Nov. 12, 1911, to James Kyle and Maude Cochran Charlton in Needy. She lived most of her life in La Grande, graduating from La Grande High School in 1929 and Eastern Oregon Normal School in 1933. She taught in Jacksonville, Gilchrist, Marshfield and La Grande. In 1938 she married Vard LaFaun Boylen in Walla Walla. In 1943 the couple worked for the railroad. After retirement they moved to Nehalem. Survivors include a son, Kyle Boylen of Elgin; a daughter, Karen DuPuis of Maupin; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ivey Herchenhein of Manzanita. Her husband and a sister, Inez Smith, died earlier. Memorials may be made to Tillamook County Hospice in care of Waud's Funeral Home, 1414 Third St., Tillamook 97141.
