Delmer Charanza, 64, of Somerville, passed away on February 8, 2009, at his home with his family by his side. Services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with the Rev. Terry Moon officiating. Interment will follow at College Station Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Delmer was born on June 13, 1944, in Caldwell, Burleson County, Texas to Ludwig and Mildred Charanza. He was a member of the Sons of Hermann Lodge and St. John's Lutheran Church in Deanville.
Delmer retired from the City of College Station Parks and Recreation Department serving as College Station Cemetery Sexton after 23 years of service.
After his retirement, he worked part-time for Overall Lumber Company in Somerville until he became ill. He was a dedicated husband, daddy and PawPaw.
Delmer was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, who he celebrated 44 years of marriage with on February 6, Virginia, of Somerville,; children, Peggy Schill and her husband Danny, Jimmy Charanza, Debra Vaughn and fiancÚ Kevin Dube, all of College Station and Michael Ray Charanza of Somerville; grandchildren, Wesley Schill, Megan Schill and James Vaughn; step-grandson, Dylan Jones; sisters and brother-in-law, Marilyn Carey and Helen and David Hahn all of Bryan and numerous nieces and nephews.
