James W. Chapple Jr., of Marion, passed away Friday, June 3, 2011 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City at the age of 71.

James was born on October 30, 1939 in Independence, Mo., the son of James and Blanche (Crabtree) Chapple Sr. He served in the United States Army in Korea. Jim was united in marriage to the former Carolyn Numaker on March 20, 1966 in La County, Calif., where he proudly served during a 30-year career as a deputy sheriff.

Jim was an active member of Community of Christ Church. He worked for the church, sang in the choir and was also the treasurer. Jim was an Eagle Scout of the Micosay Tribe, of Hard Way Warriors and an ardant supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Scout Master in Mississippi, and an active contributor to the Boy Scouts. He also was a life member of the NRA. Jim was an avid collector of firearms and movies.

Left to cherish Jim's memory are his loving wife of 45 years, Carol Rae Chapple, children; James William (Tracey) Chapple III of Neosho, Mo., J. Michael (Mary) Chapple of New Hope, Va., and Kimberly Ruth Chapple of New Castle, Wash., nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister; Doris Anderson of Blue Spring, MS. Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a daughter; Glenda Lee Chapple.

At the request of Mr. Chapple cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Arrangements are entrusted with Fosnaught-Holdship Funeral Home.
