Christine Smith Brown, 85, of Waco, went to be with her heavenly family on Oct. 30, 2007, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Pleasant Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 1600 E. League, Waco. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Cemetery.
Christine was born in Hewitt, Texas, to the late Albert and Alice (Sneed) Chappell. She was a faithful member of Leon Baptist Church, presently known as Macedonia Baptist Church. She married Bertran Smith. She later married Leo Brown in May 1948. She worked for the Waco ISD as a cook for many years. She retired from the Waco Center for Youth after 28 years of service. She was known for her soul food cooking. Cooking was her specialty. Christine was a woman who knew no strangers. She had a heart of gold. She was a mother and big mama to all who knew her. Helping people and good cooking were her gifts from God.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bertran; and sons, Bobby Joe and Bertran Lee Smith; four brothers; three sisters; one great-grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
Survivors include her devoted husband, Leo Brown, of Waco; daughters, Sandra Kaye Brown Broadus Parker, of Austin, Linda Faye Brown, Brenda Joyce Brown, Livia Anderson, Gail Lynn Thompson and husband, Steve, and Denita Thompson and husband, Ralph, of Waco; and sons, Bobby Joe Smith, Leon Brown, Donald Ray Brown and Kenneth Brown, all of Waco.
