ESCONDIDO -- Blanche Adeline Channon, passed away at home Thursday, July 24, 2008.

Born to J.D. and Estella Channon on March 25, 1913 in Holtville, Calif, she was the eldest of two children. Raised on a farm, she had an appreciation of rural life and hard work. She and her brother Thomas (Bud), often rode their horses to a one room school- 1 1/2 miles each way.

Hired by the Imperial Irrigation Water District in El Centro in 1939, she was a dedicated employee, rising to executive secretary to the district's manager. Retiring in 1978, she moved to Escondido to be closer to her family.

Aunt Blanche enjoyed cooking, crocheting, knitting, traveling, and the company of good friends. She was proud to be a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Devoting herself to assisting grandma in her declining years, she subsequently was always available and eager to help loving friends in need of care and assistance. She will sorely be missed by those whom she touched.

Preceded in death by her parents and brother, she is survived by nephews, Richard (Jerri) of Westlake Village, Wayne and Ronald of Ramona; grandnieces, Denise (Jacob) Dewitt of Julian, and Karen (Andrew) Dewitt of Ramona; cousin, Raylene (Michael) Connelly of Sturgis, South Dakota; and dearest of loving friends, Dennis and Sandra Jackson of Escondido.

We would like to give a special 'thank you' and 'well done' to primary caregiver, Miss Roberta Sanchez, the caring night staff of All Valley Home Care and the gentle and efficient folks of Elizabeth Hospice.

At Blanche's request, there was no service. Inurnment is Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside. Donations and tributes may be respectfully made to Elizabeth Hospice in Escondido. Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com Published in North County Times from August 20 to August 23, 2008
