Elmer Leroy Chaney, 72, of the Logan community died Sept. 2, 1998, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born Oct. 1, 1925, in Monarch, Okla., to Harry and Zella Thomas Chaney. He grew up in Gravette and was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with Company 250, Headquarters 37th Infantry Division in the Philippines and received the Purple Heart. He had been a resident of the Logan community for 39 years and was a livestock farmer and a builder.
Survivors include his wife, Alba Dean Freeman Chaney of the home, to whom he was married Feb. 14, 1953; two sons, Elvin Chaney and Tim Chaney, both of the Logan community; two daughters, Twilla Woody of Crocker, Mo., and Angela Nixon of Little Rock; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his stepmother, Ilah Chaney of Wichita, Kan.; one brother, Larry Chaney of Springfield, Mo.; one sister, Willa Roark of Wichita; one half sister, Tamara Esposito of Wichita.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs with the Rev. Ben Woody officiating. Burial will be in Highfill Cemetery.
