Rodney (Rod) Higgins Chaney Feb. 27, 1925~July 28, 2009 Resident of Walnut Creek Rod passed away at home on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 with his family by his side. He's survived by his wife, Helen; sons, Mark (Tim Taylor), Jeff (Debbie); and grandchildren, Kyle and Hannah. Rod was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and completed his education receiving a mechanical engineering degree from Louisiana State University (LSU) in 1950. He was the first 17 year old youth from Baton Rouge to enlist in the military, and was assigned to the Aviation program as a Naval Aviation Cadet in the Pacific Theater during WW II. Rod was a Mechanical Engineer for Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation and traveled throughout the world during his 40-year career. Rod and Helen traveled extensively and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a member of the SIRS, enjoyed boating, fishing and golf, was an ardent LSU Tiger fan but most of all loved doting on his beloved grandson, Kyle, and granddaughter, Hannah. A celebration of Rod's life will be held Thursday, August 6 at The Gardens at Heather Farms, 1540 March- banks Drive, Walnut Creek at 3-5pm. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests contributions to Kaiser Hospice, 200 Muir Road, Martinez, CA 94553.
