Vivian Matthews was born to Charlie Matthews and Rachel Washington March 13, 1920, in Taylor, Texas. Charles and Rachel were married about 1910.
By 1930 Rachel had remarried to a Willie Leonard Hansford, and the family was living at 1825 Henderson with a Lula Hargrow, noted as "mother", but of whom isn't certain since there is some confusion on the census as to who we should count as head of household.
By 1940 Vivian had married Alexander "Alex" Chandler Jr, a tailor, while she worked as a maid in a public school. They were sharing the house at 1061 Verbena with her mother, step-father, and half-brother Willie Henry Hansford. They moved out into their own sometime later that year.
Between 1940 and 1956 they had three addresses: 1059 Verbena, 1165 E Rosedale, and 5620 Wainwright (the address Alex lived at when he died in 1977). Alex usually working in the clothing industry and sometimes as a laborer, and Vivian working for the public school system. In 1943 she worked as a maid in William James Jr High. In 1956 she was managing the cafeteria at Dunbar Junior Senior High.
By 1958 she seems to have remarried to a Baker and is listed in Ft Worth city directories as Mrs Baker, cafeteria manager for the Board of Education, residing at 1029 E Tucker.
At the time of her death she was divorced and working as the cafeteria manager at a public school, living at 1061 Verbena. She passed away at St Joseph's Hospital after four months from liposarcoma, a rare cancer. She is buried next to whom is probably her maternal grandmother, Lula Anders Hargrove/Hargrow.
