Daughter of Robert K Chamberlain and Elvira N (Damon) Chamberlain.
NOTE: Her maiden name is given as Newcomb on her stone, and in the death notice below, but this appears to be incorrect. Her 1910 marriage record clearly indicates her maiden name was Chamberlain, and that it was her first marriage. It is possible that Newcomb was a middle name, or a prior married name. Note below that she had a son who was killed during WWI.... her marriage to Benjamin Barnes was only eight years prior to the start of the war, so this suggests a prior marriage.
Death Notice -- Greenfield Recorder-Gazette, Tues, July 31,1956:
"Summer Resident Dies In Delaware After Accident"
Shelburne Falls- Mrs Mabel (Newcomb) Barnes, 83?, wife of Benjamine W Barnes, died last Evening at Delaware Hospital in Wilmington, Del. Mr and Mrs Barnes were involved in an accident in Wilmington on July 14, on their way to their home in Florida. They spent summers in this area. She was born in Augusta, Me., on Jan 18,1871. She leaves her husband and several nieces and nephews. A son, Willis, was killed in World War I. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:30pm at the graveside in Arms Cemetery.
