Born with the same rare immune deficiency skin disease that killed his brother John Columbus before age 1. My cousin David was very interested in arts and crafts. He was bedridden for most of his years, and could never attend public school. He died at age 14.
David was the son of Solon Chafin and Martha Jane Brewer Chafin, and he was the grandson of Patrick Gobal Chafin.

David Ray Chafin, 14 of Route 1, Kermit, died Thursday night at 10:30 at home, following a lingering illness. Born May 11, 1953 at Holden, Chafin was a son of Solon and Martha Jane Brewer Chafin, both of whom survive at Route 1, Kermit.
Other survivers include two brothers, Solon, Jr, and Gary W Chafin, both of Columbus, OH; and seven sisters, Mrs Stella Messer and Mrs Sarah Bowman, both of Columbus, Mrs Betty Ann Munch of Rita, Rebecca, LaDonna and Regina Chafin, all of Route 1 Kermit; and the paternal grandfather, Patrick G. Chafin of Huntington.
