Funeral services for Alton (Al) Chaffin, 67, were held Fri., Mar. 28 at 2 p.m. at Henryetta Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Lowell Churchill, pastor, officiating. He died Mar. 26 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, following an extended illness.
Born Aug. 23, 1940 in Casa Grande, Ariz. to Grover Chaffin and Dona Bell Phillips Chaffin, he and his family followed farm work and he spent his formative years in Ariz., Calif., Okla. and other areas. He attended school at Shore Acres, Calif, and Bearden. In the mid-60s he settled in Okfuskee County and on Mar. 31, 1966 he and Wilma Underwood were married. They continued living in the county, finally settling in Weleetka. He worked as an auto mechanic at Allen Chevrolet and Bill Brown's Garage in Weleetka, Main Motors in Henryetta and John Deere dealership in McAlester. He loved to aggravate his grandchildren, fix :hings, and do yard work. He was also a fine artist and is remembered specially for his religious artwork. He was a member of the Henryetta Church of the Nazarene.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Jim and a sister, Louise, who died as a child.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma, of the home; two children, Danny Chaffin and Mary Pendley and husband, Dale, all of Weleetka; two grandchildren, Heather and Shaun Pendley, of Weleetka; a brother, Bobby Wayne Chaffin and wife, Dorothy, of Ore.; three sisters, Eunice Caves, of Ill., Melba Jean Cotton and husband, Don, of Henryetta and La Verne Harmon and husband, Larry, of Eufaula, along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A private family interment was held at Salem Cemetery under the direction of Williamson Funeral home.
