Death came to Mrs. Katie Murray Certain, 72, at 3 a. m. Saturday (April 10, 1943) at her home in Fairmount after an illness of three years.
She was the daughter of William and Hannah Smoot Murry, and was born Mar. 22, 1871 near Fairmount. Her Parents died when she was a small child, and she made her home with her grandparents, Barton and Hannah Smoot.
On April 2, 1890, she was married to Sherman Certain.
Surviving her are five daughters; Mrs. Leota Parrish and Mrs. Nola Perkins, both of Chicago, Mrs. Pauline Lewis of Philadelphia, Mrs. Louise Faucet of Sidell, and Miss Wintress Certain at home. A son; Dwight; is also at home.
Two brothers also survive, Walter of Manes, Mo., and Barton of Danville, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A daughter, Veda, a brother, and a sister preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Monday at the Baptist Church of which she was an active member and worker, and the Rev. N. G. Daniels will Officiate. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery, west of here, with N. E. Carrington in charge.
