Gerald Cerney (1908 - 2012)
Gerald Cerney, 103, New London, died on Tuesday, April 3, 2012. Gerald was born on May 22, 1908, in Canby, MN son of the late Charles J. and Jane (O'Brien) Cerney. On August 29, 1928, Gerald was united in marriage to Eloise Lownsbury. She preceded him in death in 1995. He managed the Greenville Co-Op Grocery Store from 1962 until his retirement in 1974. In his retirement he directed traffic at the First State Bank in New London. He was a faithful member of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church and a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Laszewski, Vadnais Heights, MN and Diana Mallum, Spring Branch, TX, two sons, Richard (Loretta) Cerney, Watertown and Jerry Cerney, New London. He is further survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Joanne Lund, 3 brothers, Charles, Percival, and Clifford; 5 sisters: Marie, Veronica, Marge, Maydesta, and Mercedes; 3 sons-in-law, Dan Mallum, Pete Laszewski and Tom Lund; and a grandson Chuck Cerney.
The Funeral Mass for Gerald will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, New London with Fr. David Lewis officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
