Mrs. Gladys Cayton Bond, age 91, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 1991, at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital. She was a life-long resident of Ghent, having been born Jan. 13, 1900, to Richard Newton Cayton and Ruth Ann Darbro Cayton. On Nov. 11, 1944, she married James Melone Bond who preceded her in death on August 1, 1950. One brother, Clarence, also preceded her in death at an early age.

Mrs. Bond was a beloved teacher and friend to many students in Sanders High School and then in Gallatin County High School where she taught for many years until her retirement in 1965. She was a graduate of Georgetown College and received a masters degree from George Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn.

Mrs. Gladys, as she was affectionately known, was a member of the Ghent Baptist Church where she served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and church pianist for many years. She was also a faitful member of the Ghent Chapter #441 Order of Eastern Star and served as a pianist for the organization.

She is survived by cousins, Janet Darbro Hils of Edgewood, Donald Darbro of St. Clair Shores, Mich., Lillian Darbro and Edna Darbro of Louisville, and very close friends Ken and Patsy Massey of Ghent.

Services were at the Ghent Baptist Church, Saturday, Aug. 10.

Pallbearers were Robert Allphin, Austin Kring, L. N. Burns, James A. Bond, Ike Smith and Ellis B. O'Neal.

Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home of Carrollton was in charge of arrangements.
