Obituary from the Shreveport Times newspaper, June 3, 1974, Monday, p. 8-A:
James Edward Cawthon, 75, of 4717 Sandefur died at 5:10 p.m. Saturday in Doctors Hospital after a short illness.
A native of Mississippi, he had lived in Shreveport for 40 years and was retired manager for the Shreveport Grain Elevator Co.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion and was a past president of the Cedar Grove Rotary Club.
A member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church, he was past grand master of the Joppa Masonic Lodge, a past potentate of the El Karubah Shrine and served on the board of directors of the Shreveport Bank and Trust Co.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today in the Marshall Street Chapel of the Rose-Neath Funeral Home. The Rev. McNair Smith, pastor of the Fairfield Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Agnes Cawthon; a brother, Walter Cawthon of Los Angeles, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Atchiey of San Francisco, Calif.
Pallbearers will be Leonard Lockard, Barron K. Vaughan, Ben Vaughan, Frank Guy, Walter Hill and Charles E. Boyd, Jr.
