CAVNESS, Amos Jarm - Amos Jarm Cavness died at his home in Bentonville early Saturday evening, Feb. 9, 1924, aged 54 years and five days. His death was the result of illness from which he had suffered for several months. Born on Pea Ridge, this county, February 4, 1870, he spent practically his whole life in this section and was known to and sincerely liked by a great number of people. He and his family moved to Bentonville in November 1906. For sixteen years, and until stricken with severe illness last July, he had been in the employ of K.C. Campbell and will be greatly missed from his old place there. In September 1897 he was married to Miss Gertrude Alfrey, a member of a pioneer Benton county family. Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Miss Lucille, Mrs. Zelma Woodruff and Miss Hazel Cavness, his aged parents, one sister, Mrs. Belle Bogle, all of Bentonville, two brothers, Henry of Bentonville and Reagon of Wichita, Kan. and other relatives including a much loved small niece and nephew, children of Mrs. Cavness' sister, who since their mother's death several months ago have been at the home of their "Daddy Amos." To these children he was devoted. "Amos," as he was best known to hundreds of friends and acquaintances, will ever be remembered as one unusually devoted to his family, who bore his sufferings and troubles uncomplainingly, who appreciated his friends, and who, if he had ill feeling against any man, did not burden others with such complaints. Funeral services at the residence Monday afternoon were conducted by J.M. McMahen, pastor of the Baptist church. Interment was at the City Cemetery, a host of friends paying a last tribute to his life and memory.
