OSWEGO - Mary L. Allen, 86, of Oswego, Kansas died Friday, April 5, 2003, at St. Johns Hospital in Joplin, Mo.
She was born April 1, 1917 in Edna, to Russell and Anna B. (Foster) Cave. She graduated from the Labette County High School in Altamont, in 135.
She married Eddie R. Allen on Oct. 6, 1940 on the family farm in rural Altamont. She and Eddie remained on the farm until his death November 13, 1995. Mary helped with the farming and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Spring Valley Methodist Church and the Spring Valley Quilting Club.
Her parents, Russell Cave and Anna B. (Foster) Cave, one sister, Ester Jean Cave, and Eddie R. Allen all preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter Carole McKinley of Oswego, a granddaughter, Dana C. McKinley of Angelton, Texas, great grandson, Christopher L. Taylor of Angleton, Texas, one brother, Marvin Foster Cave and wife, Florence of South San Francisco, Calif., one first cousin Jane Schroeder of Redman, Ore., nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 8 at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Charlotte Coates officiating.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, a memorial fund to the United Methodist Church building fund. As per her request the body was cremated and there will be no visitation.
