SCARBOROUGH - Jane Griffin, 85, formerly of Portland, died April 15, 2011 at her Higgins Beach home surrounded by her children. She was born October 12, 1925, in Portland, a daughter of Martin T. and Anne G. Nolan Cavanaugh. Jane attended local schools and was a 1943 graduate of Portland High School. She attended Portland Business College through 1945.
She was a communicant of Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
Jane married John Clement "Clem" Griffin on January 21, 1950 and began raising her family. In her later years, she became banking accounting manager at Peoples Heritage Bank for 12 years, retiring in 1992.
After she raised her five children and retired from banking, she enjoyed extensive travelling throughout the US and Europe and many happy days at Higgins Beach. She enjoyed Beano with her many longtime friends, dining out and shopping.
Jane was a loving mother and grandmother. She always attended her grandchildren's special events and was known for her kindness and love to all.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband "Clem" in 1989; her sister Margaret Mary McCallum and brothers William, Thomas, Frederick and Robert Cavanaugh. Surviving are: two daughters, Ann E. Coffey and her husband Richard of Windham, Susan J. Griffin of Scarborough; three sons, Robert E. and his wife Susan of St. Petersburg, FL, Philip J. and his wife Stephanie of Brewer, Richard T. and his wife Annemarie of Scarborough; four grandchildren, Patrick, Joseph and Catherine Griffin, David Nealley; two great grandchildren, Malina and Madalyn Griffin; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 3-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19th at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at 8:45 a.m., Wednesday, April 20th at the chapel, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 307 Congress Street, Portland. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland
