Argentinian President. He served as a conservative Argentinian politician, who held the office of president from June 27, 1942 until he was ousted by a coup d'état on June 4, 1943. Prior to being president, he served as Vice-President under President Roberto Oritze between 1938 to 1940. Historians claim this election was accomplished by fraud. In a dark time in Argentinian politics, his politics was during the "Infamous Decade," which was thirteen years characterized by political disgrace , election fraud, corruption, economic hardships and the rule of the wealthy, conservative landowners, or the alliance known as "Concordancia." After being educated at the University of Buenos Aires in law, he practiced law, reaching the Appeals Chamber of commercial law before retiring and dedicating himself to teaching at his alma mater from 1923 to 1928. In 1930 he entered politics being named Federal Intervenor of Tucuma Province. From 1932 until 1935, he was elected to the Argentine Senate for Catamarca Province by the National Democratic Party and served as the Minister of Interior. While being Vice-President, he was acting president from July 3, 1940 to June 27, 1942 as President Oritz, who was seriously ill, would not resign until a month before he died. During World War II, he maintained that Argentina was a neutral country, while attempting to keep trade agreements between both the United States and Germany as well as other members of the Axis Power. Other Latin American nations received generous lend-lease shipments from the United States. After leaving the office of president on June 4, 1943, Arturo Rawson, a military provisional president was in office for only a couple of days, when his cabinet overthrew him and eventually leading to Juan Peron's term.
