Ruth (Lyon) Cassat, 99, of 890 Mount Carmel Road, died at 3:05 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at home.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 19, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2155 University Ave. Private burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 Kennedy Road, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on Aug. 9, 1900, in Dubuque, daughter of George T. and Sarah (Boleyn) Lyon. She married David B. Cassat on April 20, 1922, at First Congregational Church, Dubuque.
She always lived in Dubuque, including 70 years in her present home. Since 1922, she was an active member and deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church. For many years she spent winters in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where she was an associate member of First Presbyterian Church. Her many community activities included membership in Chapter GE of PEO Sisterhood, Sunshine Circle of The Finley Hospital, Friends of the University of Dubuque, Daughters of the American Revolution Dubuque Chapter and the Dubuque Golf and Country Club.
Surviving are a son, George Lyon (Patricia) Cassat, of Arcadia, Calif.; a daughter, Jean C. (Earl) Christman, of Phoenix; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 17 nieces and nephews; and her extended family, neighbors and friends who inspired her legendary hospitality.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David; and her sisters, Eunice Wallis, Abby Kleine, Georgia Zollars and Lois Lawrence.
