Anthony M. Cass for nearly a century a resident of Delaware County, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ike Schneider, four miles southwest of Manchester, on Wednesday evening, December 30th, 1931, following a stroke of paralysis which he suffered the previous Saturday.

Funeral services were held at the Manchester Community church on Saturday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Joseph C. Cleveland had charge of the services. Burial was made in Oakland cemetery.

Mr. Cass, a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Cass, and familiarly known to his friends hereabout as "Tony", was born in Hamburg, Germany, on July 28th, 1853. He grew to manhood in Germany and was united in marriage with Miss Barbara Breitch on June 18th, 1877, in Hamburg. In 1883 Mr. and Mrs. Cass came to the United States, coming directly to Delaware county. They settled on a farm in Coffin's Grove township and located on the farm now known as the Dr. H. M. Bradley farm. Later they moved on the farm known as the Henry Baker place in the same township. After a brief residence on the Baker farm, the family moved to the Beth Brown farm northeast of Manchester, and here they resided for 20 years. For a short time also resided on a farm near Bailey's Ford, and in 1914, they came to Manchester, since their home. Mrs. Cass passed away at the family home on West Marion street June 12th, 1930, and since that time Mr. Cass had made his home with the daughter, Mrs. Schneider.

Mr. Cass is survived by three sons,- Joe Cass of near Manchester; Frank Cass of Cedar Rapids and William Cass of Dubuque, Iowa; and four daughters; Mrs. Harry Davis of ????, Mrs John Baker of ???, Minnesota; Mrs ????? ??????? of Prairie township, and Mrs. Clarence May of Dubuque. Twelve grand children and three great grandchildren survive him.

Mr. Cass had been an active and industrious man and a devoted husband and father. His passing takes another of the older men from this community, who had an important part in the development of this county.

The sincere sympathy of many friends is extended to the children in the sorrow that has come to them because of the death of the father.
