Birth: Apr. 30, 1930
Death: Aug. 13, 2007

Francisco Casias age 77, a resident of Rainsville, N.M. passed away on August 13, 2007 after a long brave battle with cancer. He was born in Rainsville on April 30, 1930. He was a veteran of the Korean War. After returning home from the war he met his wife Benita Armijo in Avondale, Co. They were married on Nov. 7, 1953, and enjoyed 54 years of marriage together. He returned to Rainsville in 1954, where he attended school in Mora to be a craftsman of wood. After his training in Mora he moved his family to Denver where he became an amazing craftsman of furniture at Trader Jacks Furniture Studio. He was employed for 40 years doing what he loved most. He had an amazing talent for turning a piece of wood into beautiful pieces of art. He retired after 40 years to his beloved Rainsville, where he made a beautiful life for him and his wife. He devoted his time to the church, the community, and to his family and wonderful friends. He had love in his heart for everyone that he came in contact with.

Francisco is survived by his beloved wife Benita and his four beloved children who love and adore him more than words can ever express. He will live in our hearts forever by all of the beautiful memories he has created for us and all of the lessons he has taught us. We will miss the twinkle in his beautiful green eyes, the sound of his laughter, the love of his music, the way he played the guitar and serenaded our mom as she cooked his favorite meals. We will also miss his dancing and his wonderful sense of humor. He always taught us to think of others, work hard and be honest and to be grateful for what we have, because there are those that are less fortunate.

He was a lifelong Catholic, who also taught us to always have faith in God. God must have needed someone very special so he sent for our Dad. He is survived by daughters Beverly and husband Randy Ramirez of Thornton, Colo., Angela and husband Lalo Perez from Denver, Colo., Judy and husband Mike Najera from Brighton, Colo..; Only son Frank and wife Vicki Casias from Farmington, N.M. Beloved grandfather of Jessica and Jennifer Ramirez, Jesse and Dominique Perez, Amber and Alysha Najera, Autumn and Brandon Casias; beloved great-grandfather of Isaiah Perez, Joseph and Valerie Perez; Brothers Agapito and wife Martha Casias from Albuquerque, Daniel and wife Janelle Cruz from Clifton, Colo., Dave Cruz from Denver; Sister-in-law June Cruz from Westminster, Colo., Tio Filiberto Casias and numerous nieces and nephews and very close and special cousins, (who grew up like sisters and brothers). Sister-in-law Vera Romero and husband Tom from Washington, Tommie Romero and husband JB from California, Julia Drake and husband Jerry from Rainsville, Annabelle and husband Walt from Greeley, Colo., Lydia Martinez and husband Abel from Denver, Lillian Garcia and husband Dave from Alaska; Brother-in-law Joe Armijo from Rainsville, Steve Armijo and wife Miriam from Littleton, Colo., and so many, many wonderful friends.

A Rosary will be recited at St. Gertrude Church in Mora, N.M. on Friday evening at 7. The funeral mass will be celebrated by Rev. John McHugh on Saturday at 9 a.m. also at St. Gertrude Church in Mora. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Rainsville, with Military Honors.

Francisco will be greatly missed by all of those whose lives he has touched and be remembered in our hearts as a kind and caring, generous, and brave man who always placed his family and friends before himself. He is our hero. May you rest in peace, God Bless You Until We Meet Again. We Love You Dad.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home, 425-6551.
