A GOOD WOMAN DIES
Mrs. J. M. Shelton Expires Very Suddenly at Her Home near Allerton
At about twelve o'clock Sunday night death claimed another old resident of this vicinity in the person of Mrs. J. M. Shelton who expired suddenly at her home, of heart failure. Mrs. Shelton had not been feeling well for several weeks but nothing serious was supposed to be the matter. It was supposed she might have been influenced in her feelings by the extremely cold weather which no doubt was correct. She had been up and around attending to her usual household duties during the day but complained on retiring that she did not feel well at all. The family becoming alarmed telephoned for Dr. D. E. Williams asking him to come out, but before he could get started another call informed him that Mrs. Shelton was dead.
We are enabled to give the following epitome of the life of Mrs. Shelton:
Dorcus Malinda Casey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Casey, was born in the state of Pennsylvania, June 22, 1854, and came to Iowa in 1870. She was married to J. M. Shelton on Nov. 6, 1871. To this union twelve children were born, eleven of whom are living: Mrs. Dan Morgan of Cambria, Mrs. Geo. Neill of Clio, E. E. of Sublet, Mo., James A. of Geddes, S.D., George of Cambria, this county, Charles of Herrick, S. D., and Roy, Oliver, Eva, Marie and Dale who are at home.
Of brothers she leaves James Casey of DeWitt, Iowa, Henry Casey of Bloomsburg, Ohio, and Cal and Doe Casey of this county. Her sisters are Mrs. Will Rumble of Cambria, Mrs. Will Carnstone of Derby, Iowa, and Mrs. C. J. Black of Humeston.
Mrs. Shelton was a communicant of the Baptist church having held her membership with Highland chapel west of town for years. Her funeral services will be in charge of her pastor, Rev. J. H. Perry, and will be held at the Baptist church in Allerton. No time has been decided upon as yet owing to the non-arrival of some of the children who are on their way but snow bound. Neighbors and friends in the county will be notified of the hour of these services by calling up the central telephone operator who will be advised in the matter.
