Jeanette (Jan) Conklin flew to heaven with her guardian angel on July 31, 2012 at the age of 78. She was exactly where she wanted to be, in her own home surrounded by family. Her entire family spent several days visiting with her and caring for her, sharing both laughter and tears as she prepared for her journey.
Mom was born in North Platte, Nebraska on the first day of summer in 1934. She was grey and it took several minutes to get oxygen going. Just today she had that same struggle a couple of times as she spent her last day on earth. Mom courageously battled COPD for the past decade or more with the help and constant care of her husband Jerry. Thanks to Jerry's ability to "McGuyver": Mom was able to attend her grandson's basketball games, grandchildren's graduations, visit her family, attend bingo and within the past month she attended the dance recital of her 4 year old great grandson, Wesley, who calls her " Mima."
Mom's childhood was a complicated journey culminating in the untimely deaths of her parents when she was 17. This journey produced a woman of immeasurable strength and courage. Her early adult years were filled with struggle and endurance which gave her the wisdom she shared with her three daughters and all of her grandchildren. Her years as a mother and homemaker were filled with charitable works. She was a member of the Davis Band Parents, F.O.E. youth chairwoman, Past President of the Garfield PTA and City Council PTA and winner of the Golden Acorn Award.
Jerry Conklin came into her life after her daughters were grown and they spent years traveling with a 5th wheel trailer hitched to the truck. Mom loved to sturgeon fish and was good at catching the big ones. She loved to play bingo and will be missed by all of her friends at the Super D.
Someone asked what Mom's favorite thing was and everyone answered, "family".
That was her gold and silver, her treasures and jewels. Nothing mattered more. She is survived by her husband Jerry Conklin, her daughters Vicki (Kevin) McDonald, Susan Langston and Lisa Roybal (John Koch). She is also survived by grandchildren; Michelle McDonald, Jacob Roybal, Andrea Frisk, Kelley Koch, Dallas Sanchez. She is survived by great grandchildren; Skyler Switzer, Brandon Johnson, Wesley Allen and Jesse Koch
The family wishes to thank Memorial Hospital staff for years of caring. There are too many to mention but all will be remembered in our hearts. Mom especially wanted us to thank Memorial Hospice team for all the love and support during these last couple of months. Memorials may be made to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospice
