Dollie Mae Caruthers Bishop was born in Seminole, Indian Territory, in the state of Oklahoma. At the age of five her family moved to Durant, Oklahoma. Her father, William Madison Caruthers, died of influenza during the 1918 flu epidemic. After his death, Dollie and her mother soon moved to San Diego to be near her mother's sister. Dollie stayed close to her aunt Ethel's family throughout her life.
From San Diego, Dollie's family moved to West Texas. Her mother married Mr. John Mills and Dollie lived the rest of her young life on the Mills farm outside the town of Winters in Runnels County. Dollie and Alfred, Sr. were married in the Methodist Church in Winters, and lived in Winters for a while, then moved to Houston. They bought their home in the Montrose area in 1941, and Dollie lived in this house until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her brothers: Truman Caruthers, Edgar Caruthers and half brother Clifford Travis Mills.
She is survived by her son, Alfred Bishop, Jr and his wife Annette Cheek Bishop, her grandson, Alfred (Ben) Bishop, III and his wife Lisa Anne Seach Bishop and their children, Nathan Avery Bishop & Hailey Anne Bishop, Dollie's nieces, Nora Lee Caruthers Tolar of Coleman, Helen Christine Caruthers Bragg of Glencove and Linda Morie Caruthers Smith of Waco.
