Part-time Port Townsend resident Mary Glendine Carter Beach died in Seattle of heart failure. She was 84.
Born in Seattle to Alfred and Nellie Rudd Carter, she graduated from Roosevelt High School.
She married Allen Edwards Beach in December 1942 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
She accompanied her husband on extended assignments managing U.S. pavilions at international expositions in Japan, Belgium, New York, Okinawa, Canada, and other assignments around the world.
She also advocated for citizens with developmental disabilities as a parent of a profoundly retarded child. She served as vice president of the Women's Auxiliary of Retarded Children, Seattle.
She and her husband were long-time supporters of Friends of Fircrest and Voice of the Retarded organizations, upholding state residential care choices.
The Beaches enjoyed weekends and holidays at the 1892 Victorian farm house in Port Townsend built by Mr. Beach's grandfather, Joel Edwards.
In the summer they worked on the old house and attended Centrum jazz and chamber music concerts.
Survivors include daughters Candace Braley of Seattle and Carolyn Beach of Shoreline; brother-in-law Richard Adams of Edmonds; and one grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2005, sister Una Carter Christensen and sister-in-law Doris Beach Adams.
Services: None. Private internment will be at Laurel Grove Cemetery.
