Gene Carter was the son of Alice (Brown) Carter and the late Paul Carter and the husband of Barbara (Kane) Carter, who survives. They were married Feb. 17, 1967.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a postmaster for 28 years.
He also served as a Macon County School Board Member from 2002-2006.
Survivors, other than his mother and wife, include two daughters, Jackie Sircy and Monica Charlotte, a son David Carter, two sisters, Nita Rayburn and Angela Bandy, three brothers, Frank, Terry and Richard Carter.
A son, Kenneth Carter, and a brother, Steve Carter, preceded him in death.
