Verda Carter Ballard was born January 2, 1905, at Friend, Nebraska, to James and Elva Carter. She died at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, August 25, 1970.
At the age of seven she moved with her parents to Keya Paha County and received her high school education at Keya Paha County High School in Springview.
After graduation she worked as a telephone operator until her marriage to Melvin D. Ballard on March 4, 1928. To this union two daughters and two sons were born.
The family moved to Lincoln in June 1947. Her husband preceded her in death in 1950. She has been a food supervisor at Nebraska Wesleyan University cafeteria the past twelve years. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Lincoln and Jewel Rebekah Lodge No. 319, Ainsworth, Nebraska.
She is survived by daughters, Mrs. Bill (Mary Lou) Fisher, Mrs. Dwaine (Patricia) Fagler and sons, Sterling J. and Melvin G., all of Lincoln; her mother Mrs. Elva Carter in Lincoln; brothers Russell of Wood Lake, Charles of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Wm. L., Dearborn, Michigan; eight grandchildren and other relatives.
Services were held August 17 at Faith United Methodist Church in Lincoln with graveside services at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Springview on August 18 with Rev. Curtis Norlin officiating.
