Dorothy DeShazo Carter, 85, Morganton, NC died Friday, April 16, 2010. Born in Jefferson Co., AL on November 22, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Edward S. DeShazo and Elizabeth DeShazo. Dorothy graduated from Birmingham Southern College with a B.S. in biology, graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.S. in nursing, and had worked at Northport Hospital. She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, AL.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Ralph W. Carter, Jr. and wife, Deborah, of Ocala, FL; a daughter, Dorothy "Beth" Carter and partner, Linda Medlock, of the home; and grandchildren, Chris Carter and Candace Carter.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ralph W. Carter, Sr., and a sister, Betty Burgess.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. Bill Hall officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Sossoman Funeral Home.
