Born February 10, 1917 in Brunswick, MD, she was the daughter of the late Adam Thompson and Bertha (Dixon) Thompson.
She was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church.
She was in the last car that crossed the bridge in Harpers Ferry during the flood of 1936.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Dean and husband, Darby, of Martinsburg; and Freda Mullaney, of Stephen City, VA; two grandchildren, Billy Knighten and Shannon Mullaney, and son-in-law, Bill Knighten. She is also survived by her exceptional dog, Jerry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Berry Carter; an infant son, Jerry Wilson Carter; one daughter, Dixie Knighten; one brother, Randolph "Buddy" Thompson and one sister, Anna Thompson Carter.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 19, 2012, at Bethesda United Methodist Church with Rev. Parker Lee Hinzman officiating. Interment will be held at Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday, at the church prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church, in care of Martha Putz, 4995 Engle-Moler Road, Shepherdstown, WV 25443.
