Alice Marguerite Baldwin Carter passed quietly away Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, at home. Formerly of Loxley Place, she was born in Roanoke in 1918. She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Gibson Carter. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Nina and George Miriello, Elaine and Louis Whiddon, Rosemary and John Epperson; grandchildren, Paul Whiddon and wife Christen, Catharine Williams and husband Scott, Erin, Kristin and Kerry Epperson; and great-grandchildren, Beau and Jesse Whiddon and Lacey and Lilly Williams. Marguerite was a longtime member of Fairview Heights Baptist Church in Portsmouth. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the graveside in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Barry Reel. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 2727 Enterprise Pkwy., Suite 104, Richmond, VA 23294, or online at www.cff.org in memory of Marguerite Carter.
