Laura Mae (Loran) Carter, 78, a 50-year resident of Chelan County, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 1996, at Parkside Rehab and Care Center in Wenatchee.
She was born April 13, 1918, to Cornelius B. and Anna (Rambur) Loran at Webster, Mont. Laura graduated from high school at Baker, Mont., where she married Leroy H. Cate on March 21, 1937.
She later moved to Entiat where she worked in the packing sheds, then to Okanogan where she worked at the mill, and in 1942 moved back to Entiat.
Laura married Arthur F. Carter at Wenatchee on Jan. 25, 1945, making their home in Entiat.
She was a member of the Rebekahs and enjoyed many hobbies such as gardening, painting, sewing, crafts and volunteering her time to the Boy Scouts of America for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur F. Carter of the home; two sons, Terry Cate of East Wenatchee and Brian Carter of Ellensburg; three sisters, Jeri Hudson of Spokane, Eleanor White of Wenatchee and Verl Stadele of Whittier, Calif.; one brother, Ben Loran of Anchorage, Alaska; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; also numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Alden Benjamin "Lucky" Cate, and four sisters, Josephine, Rose, Helen and Eva.

LAURA MAE (LORAN) CARTER - A funeral service for Laura Mae Carter will be held Tuesday, August 6, 1996 at Jones and Jones Colonial Chapel in Wenatchee at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Bob Jackson officiating. Slumber room visitation will be Saturday, August 3, 1996 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Entiat Ambulance Fund. Jones and Jones Funeral Directors of Wenatchee are in charge of arrangements.
