Arthur was the son of William E. Carter of Union County, Mississippi. His mother was Alice Holmes who died when Arthur was a baby. He married Laura Holmes around 1911 in Lee County Mississippi. He is survived by his wife and sons, Leland, Bonnie, Murray, Grady, and William Clarence, and daughter Lela, all of Etowah. He also leaves a Brother, John Hillman Carter of Etowah and a half brother Monroe C. Carter of Mississippi.
