Mr. Samuel M. Carter, one of Caroline county's most venerable and respected citizens, died on Wednesday last at the residence of his son-in-law, Harry A. Rowe, Esq., on Lowe Street, Denton. He was siezed with a congestive chill on Sunday night, and never recovered. He was nearly eighty three years of age.
For about half a century, Mr. Carter resided in this county. Mrs. Carter, his wife, a most estimable lady, died about two years ago at her home in Denton. Draper of Greensborough, Mrs. Isaac Pennewall, of Smyrna, Mrs. Ralph Waldo Emerson, of Ansonia, Conn., and Mrs. H.A. Rowe.
The funeral services were held at Mr. Rowe's residence yesterday, and interment took place in the afternoon at Greensborough cemetery.
