Evangelist Leona B. Carter, of Kansas City, Missouri died on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at the Research Medical Center. She was born November 1, 1917 in Holly Grove, Arkansas to Laura McCaulah. Her parents and two children, Lerlene Davenport and James T. Carter, Sr., preceded her in death. Leona was educated in the public schools of Holly Grove. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. She later moved to the Kansas City area where she lived for over fifty-five years. On November 16, 1936, she married Cleven Carter who preceded her in death. They had nine children. She was the Founder and Pastor of the Rock of Gibraltar Church of God In Christ. Many souls were added to the church through her preaching and prayers. She was a licensed daycare provider for over twenty years. She is survived by four sons, three daughters, one sister, fifty- four grandchildren; one hundred and six great grandchildren; thirty-eight great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and devoted friends. Funeral services were held on August 27 at the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. T. J. Pinkins, officiating.
