COOKEVILLE Funeral services for Thelma Bruce Martin Carter, 77, of the Poplar Grove Community near Cookeville, will be held Monday, June 29, at 10 a.m. in the Cookeville chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Cookeville Cemetery.
Family will receive friends today, Sunday, June 28, from 58
p.m. and Monday, June 29, from 9 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
Mrs. Carter died Friday afternoon, June 26, 2009, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 17, 1932, in Putnam County to the late Landon and Beulah Rodgers Bruce.
Mrs. Carter was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church for over 37 years and was retired from the former Boyd Drug Store.
Her family includes her husband of 37 years, Hubert Carter (whom she married Dec. 29, 1972, in Putnam County); a son and daughterinlaw, Mike and Mary Martin; three daughters, Mitzi Hanson, Teresa Farris and Diane Carter, all of Cookeville; two brothers and a sisterinlaw, Landon and Toni Bruce of Cookeville and Joe Bruce of Maryville; five grandchildren, Marisa Clement, Chris Maynard and wife Lora, Jennifer Wilson, Amy Allen and husband Brian, Michele Margolin; six greatgrandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Presley.
